Hey there! I'm a product designer using my background in art & design turning complex problems into elegant solutions and inclusive experiences.

Sahil Mehta

Born and raised in Fremont, California, I'm a student, advocate, and designer driven by a simple belief: that small acts of care can create real change. In 2018, I lost my older brother Ronil to childhood brain cancer. That loss became the catalyst for my purpose, using design and advocacy to give back what life took away. I initiated and co-authored California Assembly Bill 703, which established the state’s first pediatric cancer research fund. Throughout the process, I researched legislative language, secured key co-sponsors, helped to secure a sustainable funding mechanism, testified before lawmakers, organized youth advocates, and led outreach and publicity efforts. That experience taught me what persistence and collaboration can accomplish, even in the face of grief. â€‹

I’ve been sketching for as long as I can remember, and it became my way to process loss and understand the world. Over time, that creative outlet evolved from painting and digital art to product and industrial design. Each project I take on is an attempt to turn empathy into something tangible. Beyond art and advocacy, I’m an Eagle Scout, a varsity water polo goalie, and a pianist. Scouting taught me leadership and responsibility. Water polo taught me how to stay calm under pressure and hold my ground when everything around me is chaotic. Piano gives me focus and balance, reminding me to find joy even when life gets heavy. These aren’t just activities to me; they’ve shaped how I think, how I lead, and how I approach problems.Design is how I process the world. Whether I’m building something functional like StudyBrite, a solar-powered desk for students without electricity, or creating charcoal sketches that explore grief and hope, I always start from the same place: empathy. My work blends problem-solving with storytelling, turning ideas into experiences that make life a little brighter, kinder, and more human.
